Relief and development charity, Tearfund, will host a series of Behind-the-Scenes receptions in four different locations across the country, including one in Rossorry Parish Church on Saturday 4th June.
The Saturday night event will provide a chance to hear remarkable stories of change from the No Child Taken campaign, which has helped protect vulnerable children from trafficking, disease and disaster. Derek Hall from the Tearfund Northern Ireland office will share some of the highlights from a recent visit to trafficking projects in India. Through the No Child Taken campaign, supporters in Northern Ireland raised £200,000 – enough to protect and support 5,555 children.
Coinciding with Volunteers’ Week, the receptions will provide a chance for Tearfund to recognise the work of volunteers in the organisation. ‘Volunteers play an essential role in helping to raise significant funds for our work across the world, in areas of great need. Through hosting events, running, baking, helping with administration, and a host of other activities, they make a difference in the lives of thousands of individuals and communities each year – often involving their wider communities as well,’ says Tim Magowan, Tearfund NI’s Director.
Emmanuel Murangira, Tearfund’s Country Manager in Rwanda and Burundi, will be at the reception in Enniskillen to share with attendees some of the stories of change brought about by the No Child Taken campaign. He will also highlight how churches are bringing help and hope to communities who are struggling to feed themselves, as the organisation launches its new campaign focused on hunger.
The reception will be a great opportunity for those in attendance to meet like-minded people who are also passionate about ending poverty, and to learn about some exciting new Tearfund initiatives as well as how to get involved in these. It will take place on Saturday 4th June, 7.30PM, at Rossorry Parish Church.
